Way too often we try and create solutions by thinking outside the box, when sometimes the best solution is… inside the box. With a simple and logical approach, the Launch Limiter was created with an innovative analog electronic design that resides… inside of a box.
What is the Launch Limiter? In simple terms, you can think of it as a Rev Limiter for your Foot Pedal signal.
How does it limit the Pedal Signal? We use analog design circuitry, that compares the input pedal signal level to the desired user selected setting. When the Launch Limiter is enabled, the pedal signal sent to the Power Control Module (PCM) is restricted to one of 12 settings. Simplicity in this design is key feature of this product as it doesn’t rely upon an overly complicated microcontroller or microprocessor based system. It’s a simple, logic level design, in which you don’t have to worry about software bugs that give you undesired results.
When lining up at the drag strip, getting your drive train and suspension loaded up while holding your target RPM is essential for maximizing your 60ft times. The Launch Limiter takes a straightforward method for loading up your drive train by placing a maximum signal level threshold to the pedal position signal that is sent from your pedal to the PCM. With the Launch Limiter activated, a 0% pedal position is read by the PCM as 0% pedal position and when at 100% pedal position, your PCM may only think that your pedal position is at 25%. In this example, any pedal position lower than 25% will read the actual value. To adjust this maximum pedal position value, simply turn the knob on the Launch Limiter up or down based upon your desired engine load.
How do you use the Launch Limiter? To use the Launch Limiter, first apply your foot onto the foot brake, and place your vehicle into your desired launch gear. Simply hold the Launch Limiter button down while increasing the pedal position. If holding the pedal in a WOT position, the PCM will only see the maximum pedal position setting that is provided by the Launch Limiter. As soon as the button is released, the “real” pedal position value is sent to the PCM.
Using this approach at the drag strip allows you to get into the staging beams, dial in a desired launch RPM while loading up your suspension. As soon as the light goes green, release the foot brake and the Launch Limiter button for your commanded WOT signal to take over and be passed along to the PCM.
